What Parents Say
"My two daughters have been volunteering at We Rock the Spectrum for a little over two years. In this time, they have gained so much more than I could have ever imagined. Not only have they become not responsible but more importantly they have become much more empathetic and understanding. Of course it’s great that they get hours but the greatest feeling is knowing that they have become much more mature have grown as individuals since starting there. There are so many lessons to be taught by working with children on the spectrum. Lessons such as being kind, putting others feelings ahead of their own when they need to, and learning to respect that there are many kinds of disabilities. My girls now know that just because someone is different doesn’t mean they are weird. They know that this is what makes them special. The best part of it all is that they always have felt like a part of the family. Gail, the owner and her husband have always been so kind and welcoming. My girls are not just volunteers, they have become a part of the We Rock the Spectrum Family!"
"WRTS Boca Raton offers a special opportunity for middle aged volunteers to participate in summer camp and open play as Counselors-In-Training (CITs). My daughter has gained valuable skills and experience while working at We Rock and I would recommend it to any kids interested in working with special needs and typical children."
